Dumpster Diving for GOLD!

What's a girl to do when she finds out Chippendale Chairs are going into the trash because the seats are ugly, stained, ruined?

Well, she RUNS, of course to that dumpster and pulls them out!

Are you kidding me?
Why on earth would anyone throw two of these chairs (solid mahogany) into the trash?
I'm guessing the stained pink shell motif on the seat covers is why....  More on these later...

First this....
This was pulled out of same said dumpster.

Just because of a missing seat?  That's an easy fix, but first....some gray chalk paint.

I then used a black antique glaze to make those great details pop and created a seat out of plywood which was easy to cover.

Beautiful, isn't it?

Here's the AFTER picture of the other two chairs.  Painted white and then glazed brown.  The reupholstering took a bit longer on these, but well worth it!

Not too shabby for a dumpster dive.

DIY Kitchen Islands

My daughter just moved into a home built in 1905 which is really lacking in counter space.

She and her husband are going to be making a DIY island/counter area and they are so creative that I can't wait to see what they come up with.

In the meantime, I'm drooling over some of these pictures I found on Pinterest.

I really love the look of this one.

This is a dresser with a butcher block top added.
That color is fantastic!

Here's a quick and easy upcycle of an old sofa table!

I love this cute little repurposed dresser.
Very clever to add the hooks and paper towel holder to the side!

Here's another converted dresser.
This is a great project idea for a dresser with broken drawers.

and finally....

I really love the look of this and the clean lines....

What do you think?  Which one is your favorite?

Vintage Tallboy Makeover - Before and After

Found this vintage tallboy dresser a couple of weeks back in perfect working order - with dovetail drawers!

I painted it a teal color with a homemade chalk paint mixture.

Then I wiped the entire surface area with Minwax stain.
I let it sit for about 10 minutes before wiping it off with a wet towel.

Even though the stain was a good enough seal for the chalk paint, I went ahead and sprayed the entire piece with Varathane for added protection against scratches.

I love how it turned out gray-blue.

What do you think?

My new FAVORITE blog!

Katie, aka THE DAZED MOMMY, is currently running a series titled 31 Days of Lists.  Some are quite funny!  My personal favorite is October 10th!   She is a gifted writer coming at you from the perspective of being a new sleep deprived mom, sometimes silly, and other times she can be quite profound .  I hope you'll take the time to check out her posts and I promise you this, you won't be disappointed if you subscribe to her blog!

This is her "About Me" section, which I lifted directly from her page.
(If you read to the bottom of this post, you'll see why I can do that.)

I’m Katie, the dazed and confused mother of 1! My sweet little man is Owen and I could seriously talk about him all day. I love talking cloth diapers and natural parenting, as well as anything boy-band related. I consider myself somewhat “crunchy.” I love my diapers (cloth=happiness), I breastfeed and I practice baby-wearing, but that’s pretty much the extent of my crunchiness. I love crafting and singing, and I love Jesus Christ! I also took up gardening recently, and I’m not too terrible at it. I have an awesome hubby, a psychotic cat and a dog that is so clingy, I think he’d be happiest under my skin. Thanks for visiting my blog!

Hope you enjoy her - Katie is also my oldest daughter...MY baby!

and this little precious man is Owen, MY grandbaby!

God is Great Prayer - Paper Mounted on Wood

God is GREAT and this year I have so much to be thankful for.  I count each of you that take the time to read my little 'ole blog as a blessing!  So thank you, thank you, thank you....

I was recently contacted by a client who asked me to create a chalkboard print sign for her using the prayer, "God is good, God is Great..."  I wanted to share with you the process I used to do this.

A DIY Christmas Ornament Round - Great Inspiration!

I love the preparation and time leading up to Christmas just as much as the actual day itself.

One of our family traditions is making ornaments together each year.  What better way to get into the ornament making mood than a round up of some great DIY  ornament projects.

TRUE LOVE Was Born in a Stable - FREE Printable ART

I'm excited for the rapidly approaching holiday season!

Each year, with the commercialism of Christmas coming at us from every possible angle, like many others, I struggle to keep the true meaning of the holiday at the forefront of my thoughts.    So today, I've created this cute chalkboard printable as a reminder for my family and I where our hearts and thoughts should be centered.

UPcycled Cable Knit Sweater - Part 1

Last winter I was loving all the sweater-covered home accessories I was seeing.

With the days getting shorter and colder -  and winter fast approaching, I set out to find some sweaters at Goodwill that I could upcycle.
